General Characteristics

Alloy 600 is a nickel‑chromium‑iron superalloy designed for high-temperature and corrosive environments.

Compared with precipitation-hardened nickel superalloys like Alloy 718, Alloy 600 provides lower high-temperature tensile and creep strength, but features easier fabrication and outstanding resistance to carburizing, nitriding and chloride stress-corrosion cracking, a critical advantage for furnace components under cyclic thermal exposure.

Against Alloy 625, which gains strength via molybdenum and niobium additions, Alloy 600 delivers a more economical option for moderately loaded furnace hardware such as retorts, muffles and heat-treatment baskets. Alloy 601 incorporates aluminium to boost oxidation resistance at extreme temperatures, whereas Alloy 600 exhibits superior performance in chloride-bearing environments and avoids sensitivity to strain-age cracking.

No post-weld heat treatment is required for most service, simplifying manufacturing and maintenance. It is not suited for heavy-load rotating parts, making it best applied where corrosion and atmosphere resistance take priority over high creep strength.
