General Characteristics
ERNiCrMo-4 is a nickel-based filler metal with high molybdenum and tungsten additions. It is the matching consumable for Hastelloy C276, formulated so weld metal can replicate C276’s exceptional corrosion resistance.
Standard nickel welding consumables could not withstand combined mixed oxidizing-reducing acids and wet chlorine media when joining or overlaying C276 components. It maintains outstanding resistance to severe localized corrosion without post-weld heat treatment, making it ideal for waste incinerator scrubber overlay, FGD desulfurization equipment, chemical reactor lining and heavy-corrosion process valve cladding.
Compared to ERNiCrMo-3, ERNiCrMo-4 contains tungsten and higher molybdenum for superior resistance to mixed acid and wet chlorine environments. Compared to ERNiCrMo-10, ERNiCrMo-4 is the classic well-established matching filler for C276, while ERNiCrMo-10 features low carbon for improved thermal stability.

Q1: What base material is ERNiCrMo-4 (wire/rod) and ENiCrMo-4 covered electrode designed for?
A1: Primary matching base metal is Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276). ERNiCrMo-4 covers solid welding wire and bare welding rod under AWS A5.14; ENiCrMo-4 is the coated SMAW covered electrode under AWS A5.11. Both deposit nearly identical weld metal chemistry.
Q2: What is the key advantage of ERNiCrMo-4 / ENiCrMo-4 weld metal?
A2: The weld deposit has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and uniform corrosion in mixed oxidizing-reducing acidic environments. It resists chloride stress corrosion cracking.
Q3: What are the critical welding controls for ERNiCrMo-4 wire/rod and ENiCrMo-4 covered electrode?
A3: Low interpass temperature (≤150°C recommended). Cleanliness is critical; surface contaminants such as oil, grease, paint and iron particles must be fully removed before welding. Carbon pickup must be minimized. For SMAW, proper electrode baking is mandatory.
Q4: Can ERNiCrMo-4 / ENiCrMo-4 weld metal be post-weld heat treated?
A4: Post-weld heat treatment is generally not recommended; improper heating can degrade corrosion resistance.
Q5: Which shielding gas for GTAW / GMAW wire/rod? What about SMAW electrode?
A5: GTAW uses pure argon. GMAW uses pure argon; oxygen or CO₂ additions shall be kept minimal to avoid oxidation and carbon contamination. ENiCrMo-4 SMAW covered electrode relies on flux coating for shielding, no external gas.
Q6: What test documentation is available?
A6: Standard MTC includes heat chemistry and weld deposit analysis, tensile and bend test reports.
